About Us
Why Sherlocks Bar?
Many people have asked why we named the Bar ‘Sherlocks Bar’. The reason is that perhaps Portsmouth’s most famous literary connection, Arthur Conan Doyle, was the creator and writer of the Sherlocks Holmes books. In 1882, Arthur Conan Doyle set up a Medical Practice in Southsea, which allowed him time to begin to write the Sherlocks Holmes books. The association of Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlocks Holmes to Southsea inspired our name.
